Breonna
I sleep
on the left side of the bed,
with all the windows closed
and a glass of water on my bedside table.
I sleep
with a memory foam pillow under my head,
though it’s funny—I forget all about the day's troubles.
I sleep
on cotton sheets, up to a hundred sheep
with pillows on both sides of me.
I sleep
in the clothes of my lover whose smell
is still on the collar,
it brings me comfort
when I’m turned the other way.
I sleep
next to bedside vitamins,
never bullets.
I sleep
and thank who I must thank—
I sleep
and then I wake
—God
I wish others would too
