instructions for when i die

when i die -
you can think of me
in a painstakingly slow-growing plant
that enjoys the sun, a deep breath, and long stretch
when you turn a page
you can think of me

you can think of me
in the distant sound of laughter
in puddles and the way the air smells after
a rain shower
think of me
when a hummingbird perches to drink
when a pen runs out of ink
in all the seemingly small things
a fallen leaf, a kiss, a blink
smell me in a rose
hear my voice in prose
think of me in all the small doses
of life
and know
it’s simply what i preferred
