so ingrained, just the next
link-in-the-chain

how are you so sure your offspring
won’t befall this eternal summer?
the flames, the heat, the ashes,
it’s repeated the same way
you wish to see yourself.

it’s been like this
from the beginning of time
when our parents ate the apple
and passed down DNA
so depraved,
so misbehaved,
but so sweet
and perhaps worthwhile
